Probably close to a century ago, this 216 ft high smoke stack at Lansdowne and Davenport Rd in Toronto was the second-tallest such structure in Canada.
As a child I used to look at the buildings here in wonder, never knowing what they were for. Long before my time, they were factories where steam engines and trains were built to travel the nation. Later General Electric would come and go. Today the area is getting a facelift and the new developer is keeping the historic stack and nearby buildings which are becoming loft homes. If all goes well, in about a couple years time I plan to be living and setting up studio there.
