//Garden Gate Restaurant on Queen St East. (Canon 30d)
The Garden Gate is a recently renovated '50s diner, better known by a different name: "The Goof" It got the name through a little twist of fate involving the gorgeous retro neon you see in the above photo. Years ago, both D's in "GOOD FOOD" burnt out leaving only GOO FOO starting back at passersby. On the other side of the sign, in particular, it appeared to spell out GOOF. Years went by and the sign remained the same, so the goofy name soon was passed on through generations. Owners are proud of their legacy though, and in the recent reno, new menu's were made up that even tell this story for newbies. I'll probably have a review of The Goof up on blogTO tomorrow or Monday.
TONIGHT!: The Circa exhibit and book launch happens tonight, from 7-10pm at Le Petit Dejeuner (191 King St East) in Toronto. Ten 12x12" photos from the book will be on display and copies of the book will also be available. I'll have my own 'draft' copy there for you to have a peek at, as well as sign -- as a guestbook of sorts. So, even if you're too shy to say hi, please do leave a message in the book.
If you can't make it to the opening but are interested in a copy of Circa, I am now taking orders over at Urban Retrospect.
